...NERC is a private company, but regulated by FERC.

Frequency control is a complex process and is one of the degrees-of-freedom to mitigate power fluctuations on the grid - when power requested is greater than instantaneous power provided, a small change in frequency puts the system in balance until the power plants ramp up their output.

But as for time, it is not the instantaneous frequency that matters, but the average over an extended period. So the clocks may lose a second now, but gain it back in an hour. It is only of concern to those who think there is a government conspiracy to harm them.JoeShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12398638395224775006noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3046628493283608233.post-6529567069444398682011-06-26T18:45:27.657-04:002011-06-26T18:45:27.657-04:00Ah, but I remember, back in 1967, when we went to ...Ah, but I remember, back in 1967, when we went to Germany, having to buy a new drive wheel for our tape deck and not taking digital clocks.

I noticed me receipts this AM, from Staples and Hannafords, had dates and times imprinted on them. Is the time kept accurate by the 60 cycles or something else? Are there equipment fans that are point designed and need 60 cycles to operate properly?

JoeS thinks it is a tempest in a tea pot. Many motor driven appliances run optimally at 60 cycles AC.....and when it dips to 50 cycles....they run slower....mushier so to speak.

I just love the test philosophy...."Let's do it and see what happens.....if anyone notices."

Only a government has the unmitigated temerity to do something like that to its population.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3046628493283608233.post-32417981528079543312011-06-25T18:37:30.479-04:002011-06-25T18:37:30.479-04:00Lucky for me my living room timepiece is a 100 yea...Lucky for me my living room timepiece is a 100 year old wind-up model.Craig Hhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09824029248081902170noreply@blogger.com
