Outback Question of the Week

The Inauguration is on the 20th of January.

What event in the 20th Century, which resulted in terrible consequences for millions of people happened on the 20th of January?

Hint, it wasn't something that happened in the United States of America.

  1. Um, Geo Dubya Bush getting inaugurated in 2001? (Oops, that would have been in the 21st century and inside the US--but couldn't resist). Nixon in '69?

    How about the Wannsee Conference?

  2. We have a winner! (and up to 12 million losers)

The Wannsee Conference was where the German Government took the decision for the industrialization of the "final solution" to their "Jewish question"--what became the death camps.

This meeting is a key moment in what was an enormous tragedy for the Jews in Germany and German occupied territories and for others who were swept up in a German effort to bring about political control and racial purity.

This whole evil led the West to say "never again," but since then we have allowed this kind of thing, although not on so grand a scale, several times, including Cambodia and Rwanda.
