The Outback Question of the Week is "Where is the Vice President's residence."
For extra points, who lived there before it became the Vice President's residence?
Finally, is the Vice President part of the Legislative branch or the Executive branch of the US Federal Government, and why do you think so?
The "why do you think so" is an important part of the question.
For those who wish to know, Vice President Alexander Throttlebottom, while in office, lived at 1448 Z Street, with the other borders.

Doesn't the veep bunk (hammock?) with the Navy guys up at the observatory? (Wonder if Cheney had a bunker put in in the basement, and whether he slept there where the sunlight couldn't touch him). Don't know anything about the residence other than that, or who lived there first if not some Navy weather man. (Which my Dad was, by coincidence, btw).
ReplyDeleteAs mentioned before, I'd vote Executive simply because the VP is "elected" (if you can put it that way, since he's actually not even appointed by an elected official) as part of the President's ticket, and it would make sense to me that he'd be subject to all the checks and balances thereof as a result of that.
That theory about the VP's being President Pro Tem of the Senate implying Legislative Branch always seemed like a reach to me when Cheney first used it. If that's intended to be the case, then I'd say we'd first need to have ourselves a separate ballot and make it up-front and square. The trivia about where he draws a paycheck is, to me, simply bureaucracy, and not constitutional government, and I don't think that means anything in the debate.
But, of course, it's a fascinating question, as it's really never spelled out anywhere, is it.
We had a winner over on Reiss Avenue. Jess had it all written down on a piece of paper, including something I didn't know. The house is at 34th and Massachussetts, in Northwest DC.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Jess.

PS This isn't to denigrate the input from Kad Barma, but it was the details that pushed Jess to the front.
PPS I am looking for additional comments on where the VP sits in our form of Government.
