Predictions for the New Year

This is the time for predictions and here is one out of Russia that is kind of interesting. Professor Igor Panarin predicts the breakup of the United States in late June or early July 2010. With that scenario we don't even get to see if the Republicans can make a come back in the midterm elections.

From the Wall Street Journal we have this:

"There's a 55-45% chance right now that disintegration will occur," he says. "One could rejoice in that process," he adds, poker-faced. "But if we're talking reasonably, it's not the best scenario -- for Russia."

Mark Steyn, who lives in New Hampshire, notes "So on December 30th in two years' time instead of posting in the saltmines of The Corner I'll be midway through the mandatory EU two-week Christmas vacation. There's always an upside."

While I see 2009 as being a time of trouble across the globe, I am not seeing it as a prelude to the disintegration of these United States. However, if we do not start paying attention to what is happening south of the border we might find the beginnings of a failed state, with lots of illegal immigrants, now as refugees, streaming across our border in the summer of 2010. More on that in a later post.

Unfortunately, I don't think Mexico is on anybody's radar scope. Look at what Investor's Business Daily has as their top ten issues. China--si. Mexico--no.
