Alaska's Junior Senator

So, per The Anchorage Daily News, leading Republicans in Alaska are calling on their new Senator, (D), to resign.
Gov. Sarah Palin and the head of the Alaska Republican Party said Thursday that Sen. Mark Begich should give his Senate seat up to a special election now that prosecutors have abandoned their case against Ted Stevens.  "Alaskans deserve to have a fair election not tainted by some announcement that one of the candidates was convicted fairly of seven felonies, when in fact it wasn't a fair conviction," Palin said in a Thursday interview with the Daily News.
Any number of things might have happened to swing the election.  Senator Stevens might have been in a terrible plane crash and only one of two survivors. He might have fallen afoul of one of the two reasons Governor Edwin Edwards gave for why he might lose an election.  Anything.  Life is random.

So, in a word, fuhgedaboudit!

  1. Cliff,

Laughing out loud at the Eddie Edwards quote. Only in Louisiana. Didn't John Breaux once say, "Whaddaya mean my vote's for sale? My vote's not for sale! But is for rent.."

    best,
