The Plain Folk

Today would have been my Father's birthday, if he had not passed away a few years ago.  He had an affinity for the Plain Folk and he would have loved this cartoon.

Even without my Father's connection, this cartoon is perfect.  It shows how wonderful language is, or at least the English language.

  1. As with all of human language, the meaningless symbols take on a meaning of their own sometimes. This is particularly true with self-referencial statements.

For a good discussion about the limitations of symbols, and the drawbacks of self-reference, see
    the Pulitzer prize winning book
"Goedel, Escher and Bach". The book expands on these topics in a most humourous fashion. It was written for those of us who delight ascertaining the sublime.
