Wrong, But Also Stupid

Way back in March the historian John Hope Franklin died.  Frankly, the name didn't ring a bell with me, but it did with a lot of other people.  Here is a short appreciation by the TV producers Ken Burns and Lynn Novick ("The War"), in a letter to The New York Times.  In it the producers talk about the early days of World War II for the US and Dr Franklin trying to join the Navy.  The recruiter rejected Dr Franklin (already a PhD Historian) because of his race.  Sad, but also stupid.

CORRECTION:  The Poster corrected a typo.
