Kathryn Grayson, RIP

Part of the problem of being old enough to collect social security is that when people start dying of old age you actually know who they are and appreciate what they have done.  So it is with Kathryn Grayson, who was memorialized by Arm Chair Commentary.  Wikipeadia has a nice rundown on her contribution to the stage and movies and even TV.

She was born Zelma Kathryn Elisabeth Hedrick in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  The Hedrick family later moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where she was discovered singing on the empty stage of the St. Louis Municipal Opera House by a janitor, who introduced her to Frances Marshall of the Chicago Civic Opera, who gave the twelve-year-old girl voice lessons.

That is a great story.
