Per The Daily Telegraph, out of the UK, we have this article, "Peak Oil Postponed Again".
Is this good news or bad news?
I take it to be very bad news, because it will be an excuse to again postpone getting organized to fix our overall energy problem, which means a lot of importation of energy—remember the bumper sticker that says "Energy is a National Security Issue". We should have started in 1973, or when then President Jimmy Carter gave us his "Malaise Speech" or when then President Bush acted to drive Iraq back out of Kuwait, or ...

What Jimmy DID give us is that "oh so very important foundational step," the Department of Energy. Like the current National Security Team, the Energy Team is fighting mightily for "truth" (we have no choice but to depend on foreign oil and alternatives are just around the corner with a Cap and Trade law), "justice" (it isn't fair that the have's making up American get to use carbon based energy with relative impunity when some poor cousin of Barry has to scrape the bush to find enough wood to boil fetid water), "and the American way" (Well, we're working on that right now....instead of "American exceptionalism" (we are doing our best to become much more like our impoverished world community brethren........and we would have done it by now too had it not been for Darth Bush).
ReplyDeleteIsn't gluttony a deadly sin?
ReplyDeleteWinning the lottery of birth doesn't make one exceptional.
Yeah...but tell that to someone who has won that lottery. They will tell you about the golden rule....except that now (while our backs were turned during the decades long play time)...the Chinese have the gold...and they are about to rule.
ReplyDeleteAre you afraid of the Chinese, too?
ReplyDeleteLaughable:
"I talked to a retired FBI agent who said that one of the things they were looking at were terrorist cells overseas who had figured out how to game our system. And it appeared they would have young women, who became pregnant, would get them into the United States to have a baby," said Gohmert. "They wouldn't even have to pay anything for the baby. And then they would turn back where they could be raised and coddled as future terrorists. And then one day, twenty, thirty years down the road, they can be sent in to help destroy our way of life. 'Cause they figured out how stupid we are being in this country to allow our enemies to game our system, hurt our economy, get set up in a position to destroy our way of life."

My advocacy for a sufficient war machine is not predicated on the fear of being overtaken by the pagan hordes.
Glottney is a sin. Number seven in the list of Deadly Sins.
ReplyDeleteThe real problem with deadly sins is that they are deadly for all, including those who don't believe in sin.
As for being born luckily, I think that provides a form of exceptionalism. The question is, what do you do with it. Recently we have been squandering it.

With exceptionalism comes enviable benefits....but also great responsibility. Our exceptionalism is at times much more imaginary than real, at least in several domains. One need only read well considered history to come to that conclusion.
ReplyDeleteI think that the Greatest Generation in their zeal to keep their offspring from having to "endure what we had to endure" lost the message and failed to pass it on. Enduring what they had to endure is what MADE them the greatest generation....and what enabled them to win two major wars simultaneously. Generalities are often inaccurate because they ignore exceptions...and heaven knows we have individual exceptions galore....but as a society....we have become a petulant, insatiable child.
