That Old Constitution

Ezra Klien, of The Washington Post, made an offhand comment about the US Constitution being over a hundred years old and thus hard for people today to understand.  I noted it at this comment, responding to a comment by a man needing his own blog, Jack Mitchell, on this blog.

This has not quite gone viral, but it has gained some traction on the Blogosphere, or at least condemnations of it has.

Here is the latest, from Law Professor Ann Althouse.  It is great for the clip from Gypsy, if nothing else, although the way Professor Althouse weaves in the Apostles Creed so she can add a BBC clip from sometime back was pretty good.

  1. I would think the Constitution retains it's elegance in simplicity even today. Overthinking it is what causes the problems.

  2. It is a gimmick by the GOP. They are pretending to be "better Americans." Something their base imagine of themselves.

As for my potential as a legit "blogger." Thank you, no. The premise has had me thinking of what it is I do around here, meaning Lowell. I'm leaning towards "skirmisher" or "rodeo clown."

So, I'll leave the blogging to others. It's more fun to leap across new media lily pads.

  3. "Skirmisher".

Sure, it is a gimmick, but it does draw attention to the US Constitution and it allows them (GOP MC) to put themselves on notice that the rest of us will be looking.
