On Saturday the City Manager talked about the logistics of dealing with snow.
Nothing happens by magic♠ and understanding the complications helps to understand the problem.
Thus, Mr Bernie Lynch gives us some facts.

♠ I will grant you prayer, but not magic.
The city has contributed to the problem by not allowing free parking in the garages. Until about 5 years ago, residents were allowed to park in any city garage for free until the snow emergency was over The idea was to get the cars off the road so the plows could ckear the roads.
ReplyDeleteThen some pencil pusher thought about the foregone revenue(which I suspect might not be so much). A case of penny wise and pound foolish. Allowing people to park free at the Tsongas arena garage is not am amswer. It is too far from most residences. Why should people have to trudge a mile in bad weather back to their home when a garage is right next door?
IF the city is concerned about foregone revenue, I have a proposal. Any car within a half mile of a garage, that is on the street during a snow emergency will be towed. The city will collect those revenues, which would most likely exceed the revenues currently being connected.
Publius, have you been reading Nudge?
