On today's City Life program Host George Anthes articulated the view that we should accept people who might feel wronged suing the City. In contrast, School Committee Member Jackie Doherty said that we should want to avoid lawsuits and use the Money to educate students.
I find myself in the middle, and suspect that Barrister Anthes and Committee Member Doherty are in the same place.
We want our tax dollars to be spent on productive activities and not paying for mistakes on the part of City officials or employees. However, if wrong has been done, then just recompense is due.
The question is, should City officials be circumspect in their pronouncements, so as to protect the the interests of the City (rate payers). I am for circumspection.
