Happy Fourth of July.
We should be happy that our Revolution didn't spin off into mass slaughter, like the French or Cambodian or Russian revolutions, or Mao's great leap forward.
And for our own freedoms the outcome was, while not perfect, at least very good, and the basis for increased freedoms, to include the eventual abolition of slavery. In fact, many of the Founding Fathers wanted to make slavery go away, but not enough. Politics is the art of the possible.
And what was possible on 4 July 1776 was very good.
