Afghanistan is Always There

The Manchester Guardian has an interview with former US Commander in Afghanistan, Army retired General Stanley McChrystal.  The title is "US had 'frighteningly simplistic' view of Afghanistan, says McChrystal".

Someone has said the money quote is:
We didn't know enough and we still don't know enough.  Most of us, me included, had a very superficial understanding of the situation and history, and we had a frighteningly simplistic view of recent history, the last 50 years.
Keen insight or sour grapes.  Hard to tell, but your answer will be part of your calculation next year when you vote.

  1. I would classify it as ignorant...not simplistic. We are committing the same kinds of mistakes in Afghanistan that we committed in VietNam. An illiterate goat herder with an oxcart and a mortar tube...and maybe an AK.....is beating the so-called strongest Army on earth.....and doing it routinely and handily.

BTW......they kicked the Soviets as well.....and the Soviets poured massive amounts of firepower into the fray.....

We need to pull out...now....and stay out.
