From
Drudge we have a link to a
Fox News report on a proposal for a remote operating Customs and Border Patrol station within Big Bend National Park.
This makes sense to me. Can it be any worse than no crossing control today. This is a local solution to a local problem. If drug runners and queue jumping immigrants start to frequent this area, then
changeupdate the approach, again.

OK...this is just magical thinking. Does ANYONE expect that Mexicans of all stripes are going to show up at this border crossing with all the proper and LEGAL documents to scan.....and then get on the box to discuss entry remotely???? "Hey, I am a courier for the Zetas and I have this truck load of prime Guatemala hemp that needs to get to Houston tonight......." "You, BP man, this is Juan, I'm just trying to get to SA to do some yard work..then right back here. OK?"
ReplyDeleteThis is an expensive, feel good, PC initiative that smacks of political favors and more tax dollars.
I disagee, but you knew that. There is nothing now in terms of a straight forward system to deal with either legs or illegals and this promises to provide something. What had once been a nice little libertarian cross-border economic system was disrupted by 9/11, the way that cross border village up in northern New Hampshire has been disrupted. Putting in a real control system would cost lots of manpower, and more in the future, when the current CBP Agents retire and are replaced.
ReplyDeleteThe plan is to look for the bad guys the way we currently are, so no loss there. This system will allow the local economy to revive, on both sides of the border. Sure, it isn't perfect, but it is a way around the encroaching TSA mentality in DHS.
I say, good on 'em.
