Nice story on the immense value of teachers.

  1. For those rare, true teachers....it is never about the money...or who runs the union.....or how crowded their classroom is.....or any of the other whining that emanates from a profession that has seemingly lost sight of its reason to be.

My teacher was a lady by the name of Ardella Ferry. She TAUGHT English...and today....when I embark on bad grammar (such as this) I can hear her stamping her foot and exhorting me to diagram that sentence. But she also taught an appreciation for writers long forgotten by most of America today, Ring Lardner, Willa Cather, and Tennessee Williams to name a few.

But Mrs. Ferry's teaching ability was beyond the walls of the classroom and the confines of her teaching hour for us. And perhaps more than anything, the sum of her efforts was much greater than its parts.
