Oppression of Women

Not to suggest that women don't face special problems in the US, but, freedom is greater than in some parts of the world, as related in Foreign Policy Magazine by Ms Mona Eltahawy.

  1. I always find it interesting to read these "morality" articles when they relate them even indirectly to "foreign policy." The US "response" to the treatment of women in other countries and cultures is to make occasional carefully worded speeches delivered by carefully selected American women, and very little else.

How much foreign aid do we POUR into Saudia Arabia and other ME countries even while they soak us for petroleum? We "condemn" their treatment of their women, but continue to have gold plated, cozy relationships.

Talk about the extreme end of hypocrisy.

Not that America is exactly a model for equality of the sexes. Oh, we've done a REALLY good job of convincing ourselves that we've overcome our "previous" sins.....but we really haven't. We've just packaged it better.
