Former House Speaker Pelosi and CIA

There is a new book out by a former CIA Counter-Terrorism Chief, Jose Rodriguez, titled Hard Measures.  In writing this blog post I am not condoning the use of waterboarding as a interrogation technique.  My point in writing is to note that there are still questions as to when then Speaker Nancy Pelosi knew the CIA was using waterboarding and if she acquiesced in its use.  Ms Pelosi claims she was not briefed and that she only found out about the use of waterboarding from another member of the House, not from the CIA.  Mr Rodriquez denies that Ms Pelosi's story is correct.

Writing about the book in The Washington Post, and the assertion that Ms Nancy Pelosi lied, OpEd Writer Marc A. Thiessen says:
It is a big deal for another reason.  If Rodriguez is right, it means that Pelosi stood up in a Capitol Hill news conference and lied with a straight face to the American people; that she falsely accused a dedicated civil servant of lying to Congress as part of a political cover-up.  Pelosi is hoping to become House speaker again after the November elections.  Do we really want someone so ethically challenged to be third in line to the presidency?
I agree that this is not a small item, to be swept under the rug.  The employees of the CIA deserve better.

Hat tip to the Instapundit.

  1. "If Rodriguez is right,.."

Just four little words. They are written and then diminished as the blather spikes on the assumption that Rodriguez IS.

Not sure if Round 2 of the "War on Pelosi" is going to be the GOP's best card, especially since they have a huge gap with women voters.

  2. You have to play the cards you are dealt.  I am not sure the Republicans have all face cards.

As for the women voters, they will be an interesting demographic to watch over the Summer and Autumn.  But, first the Republicans have to get beyond the Convention in Tampa.  Right now Mr Romney has up to 844 of the 1144 he needs for the nomination.  Exciting stuff.
