I do like the ad. It just seems to me that the Dem field lacks an essential characteristic.....being genuine. When you listen to them, you get the feeling that what is being said is not really their own cerebral response to outside stimulation. What you see...or hear.....is what someone wants you to see.......In the case of Obama...who knows who all participated in giving him his opinion and the words to go with it.
All in all though, one of the greatest obscenities of modern America is the amount of money that we WASTE on political campaigns. Talk about being The Ugly Americans. Obama could have fed most of Africa for a year or more just on what he spent to get into office. The Reps are no better.
“My father's hands didn't build this company? My hands didn't build this company? My son's hands aren't building this company? ... President Obama, you're killing us out here. Through hard work and a little bit of luck, we built this business. Why are you demonizing us for it?” - Jack Gilchrist of Gilchrist Metal Fabricating
Yesterday John DiStaso reported — and Jack Gilchrist confirmed — that Gilchrist Metal Fabricating had a little help from the government after all.
- In the late 1980s, Gilchrist Metal received a U.S. Small Business Administration loan totaling nearly $500,000.
- Gilchrist Metal received matching funds from the federally-funded New England Trade Adjustment Assistance Center (NETAAC).
- In 1999, Gilchrist Metal received $800,000 in tax-exempt revenue bonds issued by the New Hampshire Business Finance Authority.
- Ten percent of his company's contracts are defense-related including two U.S. Navy sub-contracts last year and a 2008 Coast Guard contract.
ooops!
Note: Notice both Gilchrist and Brown use the word "demonizing." Coordinated campaign, likely the product of a Frank Luntz focus group?
Also, Mr. Lynne points this out: Defense industry-backed Republicans are so desperate to stave off the automatic military spending cuts that they’re trying to scare Americans about job losses and an ensuing nose-diving economy should the military spending cuts hold. Except there’s one problem. Republicans aren’t supposed to believe that government spending creates jobs. But in this last act of desperation, however, it seems that Republicans pushing to preserve America’s bloated military budget have come to a pretty significant epiphany.
Oops. You cherry picked the DiStaso article in the Union Leader. It goes on to state:
Jack Gilchrist said today his message is not “compromised” by the fact that he received the proceeds of tax-exempt bonds made possible by the federal government. He said the legal fees totaled about $12,000, wiping out any financial advantage he gained as a result of the lower interest rate.
“It was a loser and I wish I had never done it,” he said. “I bought some equipment with it.”
But he did not shy away from the fact that he has utilized government programs.
He also said his company received a U.S. Small Business Administration loan totaling “somewhere south of” $500,000 in the late 1980s.
He said his business has also received matching funds from the New England Trade Adjustment Assistance Center (NETAAC), which is federally-funded.
Gilchrist said about 10 percent of his company's contracts are defense-related.
“It's a small piece,” he said. “But we do business with a plethora of industries and certainly defense is one of them.
“Defense business is a good way to help the economy. But the President wants to cut the crap out of the defense budget.
“I'm not going to turn a blind eye because the money came from the government,” he said. “As far as I'm concerned, I'm getting some of my tax money back.
“I'm not stupid, I'm not going to say 'no.' Shame on me if I didn't use what's available,” he said. “As a matter of fact, right now, I'm driving on a road.
“So, no,” said Gilchrist, “I don't feel as though I've compromised anything or misled anybody.”
The Romney campaign also stands by the ad.
“President Obama has demonstrated that he doesn't understand how the economy works and that he doesn't believe in our free market system,” said Romney spokesman Ryan Williams.
“The President has denigrated business owners by telling them that they 'didn't build' their own successful companies, arrogantly dismissed the challenges facing our economy by saying the private sector is 'doing fine,' and promoted disastrous policies that have killed jobs.”
Williams pointed out that a new Rasmussen poll today showed that 72 percent of likely voters believe people who start small businesses are primarily responsible for their success or failure.

Latest Chinese Proverb: “Give a man a welfare check, a cell phone, cash for his clunker, food stamps, section 8 housing, Medicaid, 100 weeks of unemployment checks, a 40-ounce malt liquor, needles, drugs, contraceptives, and designer Air Jordan shoes… and he will vote Democrat for a lifetime."
Well, of course, I didn't cherry pick the quotes. Fair use laws prohibit doing what you did, pasting in huge swaths of copyrighted works. Also, blogger ettiquette, a thing you are alos unfamiliar with, prompted me to link to the article I referenced, so that readers could see the full context of the selection I culled out.
Regardless, Mr. Gilchrist should pull his mouth off the teat before he dares to lecture us.
Go back and reread the First Amendment Jack. Mr. Gilchrist has as much right to "lecture to us" as do you. But then, that is a real problem of liberals.....they have only one "right" view...theirs. I find this to be a real positive as it gives me such endless pleasure to irritate them....it's kind of like "an apple a day....."
I guess since you're also a copyright and "fair use laws" expert, you should turn me into the thought police for cutting and pasting a piece from the Union Leader to include the author's name. This is certainly new territory in the plagiarism arena.
Cliff, Who will be hosting the Native Americans during the UMASS Lowell debate? Are they still coming to speak to Warren?
I know she is the Democratic candidate, but if she admitted months ago she was honestly mistaken and have Harvard make the correction I could of forgiven her on that. Instead she whined that her family was being attacked.
