Now comes Obama Administration Advisor Robert Gibbs on CNN and and Candy Crowley asking:
To the propriety of the leader of the Democrats in the Senate accusing, based on a source, the Republican nominee of not paying any taxes for 10 years, is that something that Chicago has encouraged? Do you want him to stop?Dodged that one.
I am guessing that deep down inside Mr Gibbs doesn't want Senator Reid to stop.
As Candy Crowley suggests, with "Chicago Values", "Winning isn't everything; it is the only thing".
I am not sure Sports Journalist Grantland Rice would agree.
And, of course, there is the question of how Senator Reid made himself part of the 1%, amassing a net worth of $10 million. The tax returns? Of course not. Like House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. And there are other questions.
I will settle for using the word we bandy about at Poker on Wednesdays—insufferable.

Don't over think this. Romney isn't taking a stand based on principle. His calculus shows that releasing the returns will cost him more that not releasing them.
ReplyDeleteTeam Obama is trying to close the gap, if not upset Team Romney's calculus.
He gave lots of returns to Sen. McCain. Is McCain any better than you or me?
We know the game is rigged. We know the 1% prosper this way. That IS why they rigged the game. Romney's tax returns will prove what we already know. The rich get richer. Cliches come from somewhere, right?
Jack is correct. Cliches come from somewhere and in these days, the come largely from the Democrats. Personally, I think that Harry Reid is a pedophile and beats his wife nightly with a cat'o'nine tails. I know this because I was told it was true, but if I tell you who told me, it wouldn't be fair. Oh...and I also believe that Madame Pelosi has made her millions by running a chain of houses of ill-repute (to include the HOUSE of Representives). Not from the same unnamed source, but a different one...but....sorry.....I can't give you a name.
ReplyDeleteYes Jack, the game is rigged. The 1% are issued special ID cards shortly after birth. Several times a year, for the balance of their charmed lives, they meet secretly to plot ways to get any remaining loose change from the rapidly declining middle class....who...BTW....just won't go away in spite of the ongoing efforts of the 1%.
Giving "lots of returns" (is that a number...such as one or ten....or is that a bazillion....and is there a source for this information...or is that hidden by the 1%...oops..someone leaked) to McCain is significant? Does "Big John" work on the side as a political accountant?
I am quite curious however why Democrats think that MORE tax returns are going to reveal anything that the ones produced have not revealed. Or is this just one more Democratic case of wishful thinking and paranoid delusions.
And wouldn't it be better to have a guy as President who has actually participated in one form or another in the ACTUAL BUSINESS WORLD. Can you...or any unnamed source....provide the title of ONE paying private sector JOB that Obama has held...I mean...even a lemonade stand while he was living the "Dreams of His Father?"
Why is it that Romney is vilified by the Democrats for HIS money while the holy icon of the Democratic Party, FDR, is not. FDR's daddy...and Uncle.....were among the NY elite....and Frank didn't have to do much to "earn his stripes" other than wake up....and breathe deeply. Frank was pretty much a 1%'er. Oh wait.....wouldn't we classify JFK as a ONE percenter too? How about LBJ???? Who...BTW...spent more time on HIS "little Texas ranch" than Dubya ever thought possible.
See Jack, for all of your rhetoric, there keep popping up all these little inconvenient (I know...Algore invented that too)truths...truths that make the Democratic blabber look....well.....ridiculous.
OH...almost forgot......take a look at today's WSJ. A nice, concise article about "stimulated" countries and their post stimulation economic records. Oops....another "inconvenient truth" out there. Sorry.
But....don't over think this.....
Let's drill down. There is a developing conversation about tax reform. From what we do know, Mitt Romney exploits a swath of loopholes built into the current tax code.
ReplyDeleteIs tax reform in Mitt Romney's best interest?
Don't trip over your own BS, trying to cover up for Romney on this, Neal.
Jack
ReplyDeleteYou sound like a Tea Party member, re tax reform, and I whole heatedly agree. We need tax reform. But it shouldn't be in one fell swoop.
As for the cliche, I remember the song line, "Oh the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, in the mean time, in between time, ain't we got fun." Depression Era.

Yay. We agree on this.
ReplyDeleteCan Mitt Romney effectively shepherd meaningful reform through Congress?
I don't think so. Doing so will hurt his bottom line.
It is NOT the duty or responsibility of the President to "shepherd" ANYTHING through Congress....especially anything to do with taxation. THAT is the responsibility of the Congress....and in particular...the HOUSE...and the last time I checked....the House GOP had advanced a number of bills that would have simplified the tax code to include beginning the process of eliminating all the loopholes. I have yet to hear Romney oppose such measures.....particularly as they might impact him. I will remind you that Romney follows the law......laws that the Democrats themselves advanced and cheered for. The Democrats can't have it both ways.....although they certainly believe that to be the case.
ReplyDeleteFLAT tax.....FLAT tax.....FLAT tax. You PAY a FLAT tax even on your welfare "earnings." (Hey...if the liberals can refer to taxes as "revenue" with a straight face, why not also refer to welfare payments as "income"....but I'm sure it is UNEARNED income).
BTW.....Romney has not opposed a flat tax either. He IS smart enough to leave those questions to be answered by the Legislative Branch which is a different approach than that taken and advocated strongly by The Man Who Wants to be King.
Anyone check on George Soros' tax payments? Oh....he doesn't have any of the billions he takes from the US banked in the US???? How convenient. Anyone see any of Slick Willie's income taxes since he was Pres......I'm sure HE makes a pretty penny these days....and all of those other fat cat Democrats......are they paying MORE taxes than Romney???? I kind of doubt it.....especially if they live in Chicago......
The progressive mantra is growing weak...and repetitive.....and tiresome......
Flat Tax! Yikes.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder "progressives" bunch Neal's shorts in knots, the flat tax is regressive.
Unless, of course, you have bottom income exemptions based on family side? But, then your tax ain't so flat.
Flat tax is a plan for two types of folks. Those to rich to care and those two simple to know they are getting screwed.
The whole "monkey flinging dung" routine is a hoot, btw.
