Dueling Headlines

At this moment Drudge has dueling headlines:I am going with Libyan President Mohamed Yousef El-Magariaf on this.

Just think about it.  You want to make a statement to your spouse about how you feel.  If your Wedding Anniversary is coming up are you going to pick some day a week before or a week after that Anniversary, or are you going to zero in on that specific date, that memory filled date?

If we don't get the facts straight on this we will be making bad decisions in the area of international relations for years to come.  Maybe the first step is replacing Mr Jay Carney with someone who can tell us the truth.  Maybe Claire Shipman would be a step up?

  1. The position of Amb. Rice is not so much at odds with the Libyan President.

She said,"“We believe that folks in Benghazi, a small number of people came to the embassy to – or to the consulate, rather, to replicate the sort of challenge that was posed in Cairo,” Rice said. “And then as that unfolded, it seems to have been hijacked, let us say, by some individual clusters of extremists who came with heavier weapons… And it then evolved from there.”"

I hear her saying that within the cloud of the initial protest, a band of more sinister men moved toward an objective.

Rice didn't seek to characterize the identity of the attackers. Libyan officials have a motive to save face. Amb. Rice must figure the US is not served by giving Libya a free pass. She split the difference.

  2. It's impossible not to conflate "premeditated" with "came with heavier weapons". "Heavier weapons are not common streetwear in Benghazi, and claiming an absence of premeditation in someone bringing them to the party is disingenuous at best, and downright two-faced if you ask me.

Some folks came to the embassy to kill people, likely with information supplied by people inside. (How else could the safe house have been identified and specifically targeted?) The assault was clear in its intent.

The administration double-talking on that is an embarrassment. I'm quite sure the Russians are laughing at us yet again for how easily we become the victims of these sorts of things. We do indeed ask for it with the diplomatic language we are choosing. The POTUS is very much wrong on this.

  3. An RPG is not a heavy weapon. You could carry it on your shoulder for 20 miles. And, I venture to say they are slightly harder to find in Benghazi than a oz. of turkish black hash.

Not sure how they knew about the safe house. I thought it was called the American Consulate.

I'm also saying that both the Libyan and Amb. Rice are correct.
