Be Careful What You Write

For John, BLUFIn blogging, one should be (1) fair and (2) fair.

At this link is an article by Reporter Dan Stockman of the The Journal Gazette, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  The article appears in the blog of The Poynter Institute.  The title is "Suicide by source:  What do you do when a story is followed by the worst possible outcome?"

In the blog post Mr Stockman makes three key points, two of which are:

  • Never write anything you aren’t absolutely certain you will not regret later.
  • Be fair.  Bend over backward to be fair.  Be more than fair.
It doesn't mean to not be tough, to not be hyperbolic, to not be sardonic.  It does mean to be thoughtful and fair.

Hat tip to Ann Althouse.
