For John, BLUF: ACLU is wasting my donation.
Back on 11 December CCN reported:
A federal judge ruled that North Carolina's new "Choose Life" license plates are unconstitutional because the state does not offer a pro-choice alternative. It turns out, North Carolina is going to appeal."The State's offering a Choose Life license plate in the absence of a pro-choice alternative constitutes viewpoint discrimination in violation of the First Amendment," U.S. District Court Judge James Fox wrote in the ruling Friday.
Frankly, I think North Carolina should just offer a license plate that says "Pro-Choice". Is there a third point of view? Offer that also.
The alternative is to go back to a plain background with letters, numbers and year and state name in an opposing color. That would also work for me. But, not banning bumper stickers.
What doesn't work for me is the ACLU taking my contribution and wasting it on this problem when we have real First Amendment problems staring us in the face, like the video Innocence of Muslims. We do still have freedom of speech, don't we?
Hat tip to Hot Air.
