For John, BLUF: Life is not fair. Nothing to see here; just move along.
Over at the Althouse blog is a discussion of Senator Rand Paul being interviewed by Reporter David Gregory on Meet the Press. The focus of the blog post is how Mr Gregory appeared to three times try to open trap doors in the area of feminism for Senator Paul to fall through.
Just as Democrats are, today, seen as the party of Civil Rights,♠ they are seen as the Party that sides with women against their "oppression". In an attempt to be rationale, Republicans miss the personal. All of us sometimes sacrifice our "principles" for dealing with the actualities of our lives and the personal pains therein. The flip side of that approach is the Democrats, who are happy enough to loosen public morality in order to avoid individual pain.
The question is, will that second approach have long term consequences?

♠ A miracle transformation over the last half century.
In so many ways, the Republicans are in a quite unenviable position, and the Democrats are keen on increasing the discomfort any way possible. The entire key lies with the proportion of those who want to be taken care of by government versus those who think it is better to take care of oneself without government intervention.
ReplyDeleteIn today's Union Leader, editorialist Deroy Murdock writes a sarcastic op ed about the failure of the left to go beyond Single Payer medical care. He points out that, without a miracle on the order of divine intervention, we will shortly be at SP simply because that was the plan all along. But, he asks, why would the progressives stop there. Why not government controlled food distribution and sales, equality in home construction where everything is exactly the same so that nobody gets something better than anyone else, government designed and produced cars, TV's, media (well...that is already government controlled), agriculture, and on and on. While his tome is tongue in cheek, it is none-the-less the logical and likely eventual glidepath for progressive America. Ultimately, Big Brother will be exclusive and absolute in its dominance of human life.
If you listen to Chuckie Schummer et al, this is the message that they are conveying daily. Government is critical to helping individuals and families enjoy the optimum of living. This is also at the root of Obama's 2014 campaign and plan to impose absolute equality among and between Americans.
The only trial that faces the Republicans is that of finding a way to at least slow down the onslaught of total government control if not to stop it entirely. Their task is complex if only because the range of philosophies supporting the GOP are vast compared to the left. You have the RINOs who are almost in sympathy with the left view to the ultra right who would eliminate virtually all of government at least at a national level....and all those in between holding increments of both ends.
The Republicans are therefore a political force divided and destined to fail in their mission. The Democrats...progressives...are united by the singular demand from over 50% of the population that government needs to care for them more...and more....and more...until they have achieved total Nanny support.
I think we all need to make an effort at thinking a little more clearly about our problems.
ReplyDelete"The flip side of that approach is the Democrats..."
False dichotomy. All you need to do here is recognize all those that are simultaneously pro-live and pro-choice as well as all those that don't find a moral problem with making contraceptives available.
"But, he asks, why would the progressives stop there. ..."
Slippery slope. Lets stick to making arguments about what's on the table first. Even if there are other proposals further down the road, that doesn't speak to the issue at hand unless the issue you want to argue about isn't the problem but rather the 'opponent'.
"This is also at the root of Obama's 2014 campaign and plan to impose absolute equality among and between Americans."
Straw man. No such thing.
Ah yes, let's by all means wait until the fox has decimated the hen house to think seriously about foxes and hen houses.....and measures to prevent raids. Typical "enlightened" philosophy!! Let's not examine the potentials and move now to ward off something undesirable. Isn't that how we got Obamacare??
ReplyDeleteAND Mr. Lynne.....the problem IS the opponent..the one who thinks that bigger and bigger government is the answer to all our problems. Listen to Chuckie Schummer.
Listen to Obama's State of the Union pogrom.......and tell me it isn't about "equality" in all things...the soul of the communist manifesto......everyone is equal....except those in charge.
"Why not government controlled food distribution and sales, equality in home construction where everything is exactly the same so that nobody gets something better than anyone else, government designed and produced cars, TV's, media"
ReplyDeleteEven if we did that, children with residential mother and father get ahead.
What we are seeing is the isolation of single parent families, as married couples move to better communities.
Children raised by a single mom, but have a healthy influence of married mom and dad actually benefit indirectly. It just isn't the material resources.
