For John, BLUF: Follow the money. Nothing to see here; just move along.
"No Danger Pay for Special Forces Headed To Iraq". That is the word from the Military Dot Com web site.
Special Forces troops heading to Iraq to advise the Iraqi security forces will not receive combat pay but will have immunity from local law, Pentagon officials said Friday.Actually, I think the immunity from local law is more important than the $7.50 a day in imminent danger pay. On the other hand, this probably means no Purple Hearts for any wounded. No Combat Infantry Badges for infantrymen. Maybe no Bronze or Silver Stars.

So I guess this is how we can say there are no combat forces on the ground in Iraq. Well played by politicians and bureaucrats.Regards — Cliff
Just one more egregious failure by the Administration. Correction: If you are in SF, you already have been awarded the CIB.
ReplyDeleteThis is a complete misuse of military assets. If Iraq needs advisors to stem the tide of desertions, the US should suggest that they pay companies like what used to be Blackwater to come do the work. We've been down this worn out fraudulent road before.....beginning in Vietnam.
How does the government plan to explain to the families of the SF folks murdered in the coming weeks and months? Was he defending freedom and making Iraq safe for democracy? Oh wait. We used that before.
Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase, "Unarmed and unafraid." Yeah...right.
