Why Didn't He Fix the Problem Four or Five Years Ago?

For John, BLUFThe President is being very evasive regarding immigration reform.  Nothing to see here; just move along.

The President was on Meet the Press and provided new host Chuck Todd a chance to shine.  Here is Professor Althouse on the interview.

The Professor has a fairly longish headline for her Blog Post:

257 words into his 393-word answer to Chuck Todd's question about delaying the executive action on immigration, President Obama says "and I'm being honest now."
She follows that with:
Now, eh? That was telling!
That is followed by a long dissection of the interview.  And, there are comments.  A couple of them are tasteless.  Amongst the comments, this was my favorite:
If the President has the authority to make these changes he has had it for near on to six years, and yet has done nothing.  That makes it sound like dereliction of duty.

The only other explanation is that he lacks the authority, and knows it, and he is trying to run a bluff.

The only other point out of this whole mess is a consensus that Reporter Chuck Todd is no Tim Russert.

Professor Althouse: How long would it take both houses of congress to come up with an agreed upon (and passed) viable plan to either provide safe refuge (with details on the housing, feeding and caring) for these children or to decide to send them safely back to their country of origin?

Be honest now: in your time assessment, and in your belief as to whether or not each congressional politician (senate and house), wouldn't milk this crisis for all its emotional impact hoping to elicit votes for their reelection; thus generating a plethora of choices for these junior refugees fleeing draught.

Perhaps even a new subcommittee would be needed: Junior Refugee Arbitration Subcommittee. Whose sole purpose is to evaluate each refugee's potential for contributing to our country GDP prior to their being allowed to be housed, fed and raised by a social worker supporting agency.

Remember these parents of Central/South America have sent their children here hoping they can survive a draught. When was the last time you heard of a loving mother willingly sending her teenage daughter away to a foreign country in the company of other teenagers without the mother having any safe guards or even the knowledge her girl would remain alive let alone safe? What would cause you to send your children away under such circumstances? Now, be honest.
