Guy Fawkes Day

For John, BLUFAnother little bit of history.  Nothing to see here; just move along.

On 5 November 1605, about 15 years before the Pilgrims arrived at Plymouth Rock Guy Fawkes tried to blow up Parliament (and the King) by blowing up the Palace of Westminster.

This became known as The Gunpowder Plot.

In fact, it was those darned Papists, trying to get back their rights.

But, King James didn't much like the future Massachusetts Bay folks either.  Speaking at Hampton Court on 16 January 1604, he said of the Puritans:

I will make them conform themselves, or else I will harry them out of the land, or else do worse.
And, the sentiment about Guy Fawkes is still alive.  A fairly recent poster, in Scotland, said Vote Guy Fawkes:
The Only Man Ever To Enter Parliament With Honest Intentions
