Election Approved

For John, BLUFWhat a bunch of cry babies.  Nothing to see here; just move along.

President Elect Trump

From the US House of Representatives Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy:
On Friday, the House will meet at 12:00 p.m. for legislative business.

At 1:00 p.m., the House will convene for the Joint Session of Congress to count the electoral ballots for the President and Vice-President of the United States.  Members are advised that votes are possible during the Joint Session.

Here is the Associated Press report on the session early this afternoon:
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Congress certified Donald Trump's presidential victory Friday over the objections of a handful of House Democrats, with Vice President Joe Biden pronouncing, "It is over."

House Democrats objected to the votes from at least 10 states, raising issues of voter suppression as well as American intelligence showing that Russia tried to sway the election in favor of Trump.  In each case, their objections were denied because they didn't have the support of any senators.

To quote the sage advice of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi:
The basic functioning of our democracy relies on this principle:  win or lose an election, we all accept the result.
Today?  Not so much.

Here is the question.  These objections are like the dog that catches the bus.  Now what does it do?  Or, put another way, what would we do if the Congress rejected the results of the Electoral College?  Toss it into the House and let them pick from the top three vote getters?  Does anyone believe Mrs Clinton would get the needed 26 votes?  Facing that, the Democrats in Congress might suggest we go with a new election.  And who would run?  The four that ran the last time?  Or would Mr Trump be eliminated, due to the Intelligence Community saying there was Russian interference?  And Mrs Clinton for computer incompetence?
