Advice to Candidate Obama

At the Althouse blog, "President Obama, may I give you some campaign advice?"
I'm independent, moderate, and pragmatic, and I voted for you in 2008 because I thought I saw those qualities in you.  I still see those qualities in you, but the you that has those qualities is one of two Obamas, and the other Obama — Radical Lefty Obama — is a person I will not vote for.
Nice debate in the comments.

Is radical Lefty Obama the one who pushes for Single Payer Health Care? Or, is that Communist Obama?

I can never figure where Left is, these days. Is it right of Eisenhower? Nixon? Reagan? H.W. Bush? W.?

Definately right of Nixon!

Welcome to the new Left. Just right of Nixon.

I'll go make the bumper stickers, now.

"Change has come to America!!" "I want you to join me in fundamentally changing the greatest nation on earth."

Well...he's certainly done both so far. America has changed...and is changing.....fundamentally....from a market capitalist society into one that is essentially Marxist Socialist....from the strongest military presence ever formed in history...to an also ran (China views the US as a "declining nation").

I don't know if the left is right of Nixon....perhaps in today's terms "yes." And yet, Obama is hardly what one can call "left." I am not at all certain that there exists a category for him as so little is known about him, his history, his personal zeitgeist....he is a complete unknown...even after 3 years. We know that his friends and those he admires include such historical greats such as Alinsky and Bill Ayers. His pastor is known to be one of the most incendiary and hateful of America clerics in recent memory....even surpassing our two Hollywood Revs who show up at every "incident" they can find. His wife proclaimed during his campaign that she was ashamed of America.

But I think most of all...he sure does seem to fit well the axiom offered by Eric Hoffer; "Absolute power corrupts even when exercised for humane purposes. The benevolent despot who sees himself as a shepherd of the people still demands from others the submissiveness of sheep. The taint inherent in absolute power is not its inhumanity but its anti-humanity." --American author Eric Hoffer (1902-1983)

I have some GREAT bumper stickers if yours fall flat Jack.

I take your point about President Nixon—I only voted for him because his opponent was Geo McGovern—but I would think that in thought Mr Obama is slightly left of RMN.

For me, this election, the issue is economics. The Democrats are wrong in traveling the Keynesian path and the Republicans seem to lack the courage to condemn Keynesianism, and point to its failure in Japan, and advocating a new path, while still acknowledging the need for a safety net.

How many days since the Democratically controlled Senate has not offered...let alone passed a budget???? How many House bills have been sent to the Senate only to wind up on arrival in Dingy Harry's trash can? I think the Reps are called Keynesian economics bad, but can't get any traction against an entrenched, ossified Democratic Senate.

What Americans are particularly incensed about (IMHO) is the endless political preening on either side without any tangible action of even minimal consequence. The ACA was little more than a massive power stunt by Nancy Pelosi...her "crown jewel" that is a crown of thorns for not only her associates in the House, but for the American public. Nearly 2 years after its passage, we STILL don't know what's in it.....and Justice Alito accused the government last week of violation of the 8th Amendment by suggesting that the Justices read it.

This is not government, it is out of control narcissism coupled with a fundamental desire by both parties to not just outvote, but to completely eclipse the opposition. It has....in far too many ways....become a personal battle among and between self-defined titans in Federal government....a battle that is soon...in my opinion...going to transfer to Main Street..where it is going to get genuinely ugly....and unnecessarily so....but unavoidably....

"Radical Lefty Obama"??? If only. Radical leftists want to tear down the police state, not institutionalize it.

Marxist? Even less. Marxists want wealth distributed, not concentrated as has been accelerating under Obama. And where Neal is getting the absolutely back-assed impression he's soft on army power I have no idea. The guy loves to kill people--the only Nobel Peace Prizer to say it with Tomahawks.

The only way in which Barry resembles any of this is in proving to be a power politico who believes his way is the only way, and everyone else is subject to assassination if they push it too far.

There are many reasons to oppose Obama in '12, but being too Lefty isn't anywhere near one of them.

I guess it is all in the eye of the beerholder. I see BO as one whose fondest desire is to institute plenary police powers that he alone controls. There is much anecdotal evidence IMHO to support that view. He is also adamant about wealth redistribution....except for those who contribute to his campaign or otherwise kiss up to him. I know that this always brings howls of indignation and disagreement from folks, but in so many ways, at the psychological level....I see so much of Adolf in BO that it is quite frightening...to me. He is a consummate narcissist of a degree rarely seen.

As for gutting the military, I'll let the record speak for itself. Lets talk to the Chiefs of Staff about their looming shortfalls. BO loves to fly on the planes and wear the jackets and talk the talk...but behind the scenes....he is rendering the US military impotent....don't like to have a force that has historically been quite conservative armed and....well..potentially dangerous to a new monarch.

But hey Kad....that is just my view....but one that I have thought long and hard about.....and frankly.....I don't see any effective counter to BO on not only the near horizon....but any horizon....and perhaps that is what scares me most......without a counter....he becomes completely unrestrained.

There are so many vital issues that the Reps could use to beat BO....but instead....they are behaving as typical NEOCONs....fighting amongst themselves for beauty prizes. At this point in time....I see virtually no difference in whether Pritty Mitty or good ole BO gets the banner and sash.

I think America will have to lose their heritage in order to appreciate what we have had...."Don't it always seem to be, you don't know what you've got til its gone......."
