As of tomorrow The International Herald Tribune will be no more. It will become The International New York Times.
What are they thinking?
This change, detailed here, will take a brand name, something that has been reliable across Western Europe for as long as I have been going to Europe, and drop it for a Mark that reflects the particular world views of one paper in one city in one state on the Eastern Seaboard of the United States. Up until now The International Herald Tribune has been a cosmopolitan newspaper. The future? I am pessimistic. I comfort myself with knowing that at least we got The Boston Globe Back.
