For John, BLUF: Politics is worse when Prosecutors use the law to go after folks from a different party. Nothing to see here; just move along.
The Chinese have been developing a doctrine around the concept of Lawfare. The idea is to use the law, in the case of China, international law, to restrict one's opponent. In the case of Governor Scott Walker, of Wisconsin, it is Democrats using the law to weaken their Republican opponent, Scott Walker, so he can be defeated and his actions over the last few years reversed.
Here is an article on the issue, "A First Amendment Education: What the press corps isn't telling you about the Scott Walker probe". The lede:
The selective investigation of the political speech of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker's allies goes to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals next week, and with any luck the judges will vindicate a district court's preliminary injunction that has shut down the probe. They should do so before the November election because this unconstitutional exercise is being exploited by Mr. Walker's enemies to defeat him.Good luck on an early ruling.
Meanwhile, at the Althouse blog, out of Madison, Wisconsin, the most sarcastic comment.
All those Alabama sheriffs who tried to obstruct the exercise of civil rights by American citizens moved to Wisconsin and became Democrat prosecutors.Hat tip to the Althouse blog.Who knew?
