ISIS v ISIL


For John, BLUFGetting the terms right helps with communication.



The media tends to use the acronym ISIS and the White House ISIL.  I am with the White House on this.  Here is an explanation.
ISIS vs. ISIL, they're really the same thing.  "ISIS" should be understood as the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham rather than the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, thus encompassing the same geographic space as the acronym "ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant).
You probably have to be on Social Security to have heard the term Levant used, either Oscar or Geographically.
