For John, BLUF: In my youth Thomas Jefferson was a hero, as was, to a lesser degree, Andrew Jackson. Today, not so much. Today we look back and say a recovering alcoholic was once an alcoholic and can never be better than that. Nothing to see here; just move along.

My quick answer is "YES".
