The EU

Google says the EU requires a notice of cookie use (by Google) and says they have posted a notice. I don't see it. If cookies bother you, go elsewhere. If the EU bothers you, emigrate. If you live outside the EU, don't go there.

Bio-Ethical Issues

Over at the Althouse blog is a post on a new book on bio-ethics:
"The Body Politic:  The Battle Over Science in America", by Jonathan D. Moreno, Bellevue Literary Press, 224 pages, $18.95

Here is the book review in Reason Magazine.

The author's points include the idea that the Neo-Cons and the Progressives are united in believing that advances in biological sciences are going to spread inequality, not reduce it.

The book, the article, and the "concern" are wildly esoteric in every sense of the word. IMHO, this discussion is somewhat akin to the old philosophical exercise that attempted to define just how many angels one could fit on the head of a pin...but then...all pin heads (or perhaps "pinheads") are not equal....and therein lies the conundrum.

I love the reference to the Declaration of Independence when the author takes quite literally the term "equal" and stretches it to include every possibility and human factor. I personally don't believe that is what the writers of the Declaration had in mind....rather.....they spoke to equality in the sense of starting from the same point....and from there....opportunity to pursue happiness and security.....without artificially interjected blocks.

Today's progressives, aka liberals, would have everyone "rise" to the lowest common denominator in the name of equality. I believe that a classical conservative (as opposed to neocons who are little more than old school liberals in updated clothing) holds that the quest is much more individualistic.....and higher......and therefore....in the end...perhaps just not equal.
It is the human form of "if you can't raise the drawbridge, lower the water"......precisely what this administration is doing.
