For John, BLUF: Laws should not lead to different understandings, but provide a common understanding.
A criminal statute is void for vagueness when it forbids or requires the doing of an act in terms so vague that men of ordinary intelligence must necessarily guess at its meaning and differ as to its application. This is a statement by A New Hampshire judge in his ruling in State v. Dor (N.H. May 7, 2013). This was part of a blog post by Law Professor Eugene Volokh, "Loaded Means Loaded".
I believe this is a very important point. Men of ordinary intelligence need to be able to understand the laws they come across.
