Compromise on Capitol Hill

For John, BLUFActually, such a thing doesn't exist for the Bien-pensant.  Nothing to see here; just move along.

So, on 17 September Mr Michael Winship, writing for Nation of Change, gives us "Congress Is a Confederacy of Dunces".

What it boils down to is that the Democrats are prepared to shut down the Federal Government over the issue of funding Planned Parenthood.  It isn't cast that way, but that is the way it is.

And why does Planned Parenthood get money from the Feds?  What do they do that is not covered by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PP&ACA)?  And if not, why not?

So, from my angle, Ms Nancy Pelosi and Mr Harry Reid are prepared to stop paychecks to thousands of Civil Servants over the funding of Planned Parenthood.  How does that make sense?

Actually it is Republicans that are willing to shut down Government over Planned Parenthood. And it is interesting since none of the money that goes to Planned Parenthood can be used for abortions. So the Republicans are willing to shut down Government over providing family planning information and birth control for women who tend to be the poorest? If they are really opposed to abortions how does that make sense?

So, the only conclusion I can draw is that you believe that like the US Army, Planned Parenthood is a permanent part of the budget.  To pull it out is the worst thing we can do with the Authorization and Appropriation process.  The budget revolves around Planned Parenthood.

Have you ever heard the concept of money being fungible?  What are the other funding streams for Planned Parenthood?

Oh, and you know, some 200+ years ago, we abolished the US Army, just keeping some caretaker folks at West Point?

This makes no sense.

What you can take from my comment is that I support women being informed and would think that someone who is pro life, at least relative to new borns, would want that too.

OK, how about we shut down Planned Parenthood because it is not working as advertised. How do we explain the disproportionally large number of Black babies aborted each year? That would seem to be the ideal target population for the work you are suggesting, and, from an historical point of view, fitting (from their point of view).
