Modern lifestyles are generally quite different from those of our hunter-gatherer ancestors, a fact that some claim as the cause of the current rise in global obesity, but new results published July 25 in the open access journal PLoS ONE find that there is no difference between the energy expenditure of modern hunter-gatherers and Westerners, casting doubt on this theory.Wherever the science leads, Mayor Bloomberg.

Your wife is correct. Rule one for men to enjoy a sanguine marriage....."You can be right, or you can be happy."
The studies I've read which identify the causes of our obesity all confirm the explosion of sugars and other more easily digestible carbs in our diet. Where once our forebears had to chew largely energy-poor foods for hours to eke out their nutrition, and spend all day taking in a few hundred calories, now we slurp and munch down thousands of calories in mere moments. Our balance is off, and we either have to become more active, or less devoted to calorie-dense foodstuffs.
