Mark Steyn comments here. His best line:
I think it’s fair to say the death of Osama bin Laden has reduced US coverage of today’s Canadian election from 0% of network airtime to 0.0000% of network airtime. Then there is the view from the Grits, provided by the Curiosity Cat blog.♠ Here is an extract:
The majority of votes cast were cast for parties to the left of the Conservatives, and so the archaic first past the post system we have once more resulted in a minority of voters electing a majority.Remember, this is a comment that only makes some sense when more than two folks run for an office. But, it raises questions about how we do elections here in Lowell. My view is that for local elections (City Council, School Committee and Greater Lowell Technical High School School Committee) we should allow bullet voting, in which one has the same number of votes as there are offices and one can use them as one sees fit. That is to say, one can give all nine votes to Rita Mercier or five to Rita and four to Joe Mendonça. Or, one can give one vote each to nine of the umpteen folks running for City Council.
