Friday Deadline?

There is still a war ongoing In Libya. We are still involved in military operations in Libya.

An OpEd from The Washington Post.

As the Instapundit notes, maybe The Warpowers Act only applies to Republican Presidents.

This is much more about a President who considers himself, and his self defined vision for greatness, to be above the law. Therefore, any argument from DOJ in re meeting the legal requirements of the WPA are moot. This is a consistent pattern of behavior employed by the Obama administration. When confronted by law, or the direction of the Federal judiciary, Obama simply trudges forward when that is the desired direction, or, he votes "Present."

As an aside, the greatest percentage of the voting population of America would have us withdraw from our foreign entanglements, that is, if they had any say in it. The Presidency, for several decades now, have become imperial in its position and perquisites, driven to those excesses of power by the corruption of ego fed by successful grabs for more power aided by an impotent Congress and a largely out of touch SCOTUS.

Wars, wars, and more wars is one of the outcomes of our modern Federal government structure perversion.

But, in fact, this resistence didn't start with President Obama.  This goes back several decades, starting with President Nixon's vetoing of the original Resolution out of Congress.

And, the US Congress lets the Executive Branch get away with it.

Here is Christopher Preble, writing on 13 May 2011, in The National Interest:

QUOTE
You might think that members of Congress would object to these sorts of shenanigans.  To the untrained eye, it looks as though the White House is trying to pull one over on them.  But there is reason to believe that members like it that way.  It allows them to evade responsibility for the war, and leaves them free to praise or criticize it after the fact, depending upon how it all plays out.

Yes, the fault needs to be dropped at the door of the US Congress.

As an aside, I thought that when Rep Nancy Pelosi was elected Speaker of the House that she would stand up for that institution, its rights and its responsibilities.  I wasn't looking forward to her off-brand of a social welfare state, but I thought maybe the US Congress would again become the great institution it was designed to be.  To say I was disappointed would be understatement.

I agree that this is not a new phenomenon. Obama has merely taken it to a new and almost unprecedented level of audacity. In every instance in which the law doesn't "go" his way, he simply stonewalls and moves ahead. Other Presidents have not achieved that level of mendacity.

The reason that the Congress remains as it has been for decades is that the voting public allows it, mostly by their silence. Until the electorate demands REAL chance, it will be business as usual, and the few change agents who make it to the hallowed halls will be quickly subdued and subjugated to the "will of Congress."

While it may be chic to observe sagely that this is simply a natural evolution, it is none-the-less tragic for those of us who must suffer the pains of process.

Nealy 1600 EST.....not a peep out of the District of Criminals about the WPA deadline.....seems more like..."Just dead." NOT that anyone in the Administration had any intention of reading....let alone complying with its provisions......
