For John, BLUF: There is a practical limit to the size of the Federal Government. I have heard 19.1% of GDP. Clinton and Gingrich liked it. Nothing to see here; just move along.
Here is a report on how the Nation's Capitol has grown richer in the last decade. Done better than the rest of the nation—at twice the national average. This speaks to the growth of Government, not just in terms of the Civil Service, but in terms of contractors and lobbyists. And, I have skin in the game. I have two sons and a brother who work for Government contractors, doing Government work.
My sense of it began in the early 1990s, when I noticed my commute to the Pentagon, and then Fort McNair, taking longer and longer—in fact, noting that I was leaving earlier and earlier to get to work at the same time. And I lived along the 95 Corridor in a County not mentioned in the survey, Prince William. And the County below us, Stafford was also filling up with people.
I blame Bush.
