For John, BLUF: Being polite doesn't cost anything and shows one has self-control.
Over at the Comic Curmudgeon the below is the "Comment of the Week":
"I like that fact that, even in the moments before she's getting stabbed with a frog-poison tipped arrow, the narrator in Curtis refers to the evil witch as Ms. Yahna. I guess it's in the same style the Wall Street Journal refers to Mr. Hussein and Ms. Bathory. Respect: it's not an official principle of Kwanzaa, but it's nice to see it anyway." --VoshkodCurtis, while it can be found in newspapers in Eastern Massachusetts, is not featured in The [Lowell] Sun.

I'm wary of "politeness," as passive-aggressive folks will often try to exploit civility. especially in a group setting.
We can assert, "Don't mistake my kindness for weakness," but only if we are willing to stand our ground. And, as Led Zeppelin opined, "The pain of war cannot exceed the woe of aftermath."
I think it is, in some part, a matter of style. And, understanding what is important as opposed to what is glittering, but trivial.
I think I have more thoughts, but I also think I may have caught some of what Martha has, so I am moving on, trying to get well enough to show up for work tonight..
