For John, BLUF: Sometimes we need to question our assumptions. Nothing to see here; just move along.
If the King's English was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me!This is attributed to Texas Governor Ma Ferguson`.
Two points about this. It was the Governor's rejoinder to those advocating bilingualism in Texas schools.
The second is that it may well derive from a strong affection for the "King James" version of the Bible, official known as "The Authorized Version". A few years back I heard a preacher actually say "I am using the King James version, the one [Saint] Paul used when he preached." He said it jokingly, but it resonated with those he was talking to.
Given that the Nineteenth Amendment♠ was approved only in 1920, Ms Ferguson getting elected Governor in 1925 was pretty good. And, she showed her courage by standing up to the KKK in the 1920s, and in the South.
