President Inaugurated

For John, BLUFCongrats to the President.

I know that President Obama was sworn in on Sunday, but today is the big day for pageantry, so I send him good wishes on this day.  Actually, I am writing this on Sunday, as I have a (routine) medical appointment during the noontime period.

We have only one President at a time and they are constrained by the US Congress on one side and the US Supreme Court on the other.  In addition, there are the Indiviual States, with their own rights.  If not enough, the President is constrained by the laws of nature and by the existence of other nations, pursuing their own goals.  It is a tough job and we should all wish him well, even if that means he have a revelation as to the wrong track he is on, and for those who do, I think we should follow the advice of St Paul to Timothy and say a prayer for him.

OK...point taken. However, there is entirely too much focus on this man and this office. He is in the spotlight to the relative exclusion of the other two branches of government. I would submit that prayer must be offered on their behalf as well.

But mostly, because of the composition of the three branches as we have them today.......I would strongly suggest earnest prayer without ceasing for our Country. We are in serious trouble as a society....and as a nation.......perhaps it is a good time to bring God back into the synergy.

The Founders were bastards! We really ought to keep such prayers non-demoninational, but where is the fun in that?

"Oh, ambiguous & omnipotent Divine. Please be sentient, willfully execising stewardship on humanity's condition. Maybe, even, opting to throw America a bone, on occasion. ..."

I may convert to some 'fire and brimstone', holy rollin', snake dancing cult. This generic stuff is so ... meh!

Would that make me a wish for an Israeli style theocracy?

I am of the "if you got 'em, smoke 'em" school with regard to prayer.

When I was a Squadron Commander, back when Pontus was a Pilot, I had a guy working for me, a Captain Christ.  Honest.  He kept claiming to be a Druid.  Finally, I asked to see his dog tags, which read Roman Catholic.  I told him to go up to CBPO and get new dog tags.  He did, and they issued them to him.  He was thus a Druid.

And, that is "snake handling", not snake dancing.  The term comes, I think, again, from Saint Paul and has to do with being maroon on the island of Malta.  But, transposed to the Appalachians when Pentecostalism was all the rage a hundred years ago.

To each his own, but today is Barak's day.

Pronounced C-Bow, with a silent "P".
