The EU

Google says the EU requires a notice of cookie use (by Google) and says they have posted a notice. I don't see it. If cookies bother you, go elsewhere. If the EU bothers you, emigrate. If you live outside the EU, don't go there.

If You Think Sarah is an Idiot

If you think Governor Sarah Palin was, and is, an idiot, here is your change to prove itThe Washington Post is looking for 100 folks to help them analyze some 24,000 EMails sent to or sent by Governor Palin while she was in office.

Act now.  This offer is limited.

Couldn't you be motivated to do this if you thought that SP was one of the 21st century's greatest statesmen, too, and didn't want any of her best stuff to go unheralded?

Crowd-sourcing is one of the most powerful attributes of the internet. SETI is using it to search the universe for intelligent life, why shouldn't the Post?

Great seeing you tonight!

Crowdsourcing is interesting, especially when used for problems like this that even the best and "smartest" computers can't solve. For example, Amazon has a service now called Mechanical Turk that is used for image identification, etc.

The naming reference is based on The Turk - an 18th century "automaton" that could play chess. Of course, the real technology to do this is under 20 years old - the Mechanical Turk actually had a secret compartment with a chess master hidden in it, controlling the machine.

Enjoying the political circus. Nice economic job stimulus, for the state capitol.

Kad Barma mentions SETI.  I thought he was the Mayor of Newton, running for the Democratic Party nomination to try and take back the "Kennedy Seat".
