For John, BLUF: Kerry Murphy Healey moves on to a new job.
Maybe this explains why our former Lieutenant Governor, Kerry Murphy Healey, elected to not run for the US Senate, where she would have been a standout. Babson College announces Dr Kerry Healey as President of the institution.
The Babson College Board of Trustees named Dr. Kerry Healey, former Lt. Governor of Massachusetts and a leading advocate for the expansion of women's rights and higher education in Afghanistan, Babson’s next president and the first woman to lead the College. An academic by training, Kerry is an internationally known and respected leader with nearly three decades experience in academia, government, and international diplomatic and humanitarian work.Congratulations to you, Dr Kerry Murphy Healey.

As an alum, I've spent the morning (they sent word to us overnight) trying to imagine the agenda behind this one. Babson enjoys a certain cachet among the entreprenuerial (aka robber baron, and I mean that in the most affectionate way possible) families of the world, (Edsel Ford and Edsel Ford II of the US Fords are both alums, as would be scions of the Gerber baby food and Campbell's Soup families, various Molsons of Canada, Toyodas of Japan, Ning/Hendersons of Hong Kong, Rahmans of Pakistan, Bertarellis of Italy, Cisneros of Venezuela, Khodorkovskys of Russia, etc. etc. etc.), and past chief executives have generally been chosen with at least an eye if not two on that small but prosperous part of our larger world. My best guess is that it's less Healey's political achievements and more her family money (she's married to AMG Chairman and CEO Sean Healey and between the two of them they do very nicely) and connections that are most attractive to the Board. Being chosen #1 in Entrepreneurship in US News for 20 years running is one thing, but continuing to educate the issue of the world's wealthiest is the real business of the school.
